2024 Small Works on Paper Exhibition Moves to Hope

The Arkansas Arts Council’s annual touring visual arts exhibition, Small Works on Paper, has arrived in Hope. This esteemed exhibition, now in its 37th year, is a celebration of Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry.

From August 2 through September 27, the exhibition will be on display at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana in Hempstead Hall. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This traveling exhibition features 39 artists from across Arkansas and will visit nine venues statewide.

Each year, artists from around the state submit artwork no larger than 18 by 24 inches. This year’s entries were juried by Laura Blereau, curator at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Blereau reviewed over 200 submissions to select the 40 pieces that make up the exhibition.

Among the participating artists are Anna Zusman of Magnolia and Maria Botti Villegas of El Dorado. Additionally, six artists’ works were selected as purchase awards and will become part of the Small Works on Paper permanent collection. These artists receive cash awards equivalent to the value of their artwork.

  • The following area artists have work included in the exhibition: Anna Zusman of Magnolia and Maria Botti Villegas of El Dorado.
  • Artists whose work was selected as purchase awards include Ryan Howard of Little Rock, Milan Jilka of Springdale, Alexia Lams of Pine Bluff, Madeline McMahan of Paragould, Vianny Nolasco of Rogers, and Sondra Strong of Bryant.
