Wildlife Fines Support Conservation Education in Arkansas Schools
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has made a significant contribution to conservation education in the state’s schools. Thanks to wildlife violation fines collected by the AGFC, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services has awarded grants totaling 5,493.22 to 206 schools, school districts, and conservation districts across 68 counties in Arkansas.
The AGFC ensures that the grants are distributed locally, with funds collected in a particular county being used to support programs in that county. This investment is crucial for instilling a love of the outdoors and understanding the importance of conservation among Arkansas students.
New Game and Fish Commissioner Appointed
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has appointed Chris Caldwell as the new commissioner of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. This announcement marks a new era for conservation efforts and outdoor recreation in the state.
Partnership for Enhanced Access Projects
The AGFC has approved a partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation (AGFF) to improve amenities at access areas across the state. The AGFF, a nonprofit organization, will work with AGFC staff to execute these projects, ensuring that the state’s 450-plus boating accesses are maintained and enhanced.
Urban Deer Hunts
The AGFC has opened applications for the 2024 urban deer hunts in select cities across Arkansas. These hunts aim to address nuisance issues caused by deer populations within city limits, and qualified bow hunters will have the opportunity to participate. The hunts will contribute to reducing deer-car collisions and provide a chance for families to obtain food.
Every deer taken during these hunts is required to be donated to Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, further emphasizing the community-centric approach of the urban deer hunt program.
