Arkansas Adult Education Centers to Host Statewide Open House

Arkansas Adult Education Centers Host Statewide Open House

In celebration of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 16-20, Arkansas Adult Education Centers are set to host a statewide open house event.

This special event, taking place on Thursday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., aims to introduce the public to the extensive range of education, training, and workforce services available at the centers.

Unlocking New Opportunities

Dr. Trenia Miles, Director of Arkansas Adult Education, emphasizes the importance of education in opening up new opportunities.

“Sometimes, the biggest challenge is simply taking that first step—walking in and saying, ‘I need help,’” Dr. Miles explains. “Our Open House is designed to make that first step easier, offering a warm, welcoming environment where individuals can explore our services without any pressure.”

Free Programs and Services

During the Open House, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the free programs available, including:

  • Integrated Education and Job Training, which helps adult learners earn industry-recognized certifications while improving basic academic skills.
  • GED Test Preparation, supporting individuals in earning an Arkansas High School Diploma.
  • English Language Acquisition (ELA) Classes, tailored to help non-native speakers improve their English proficiency.
  • Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (WAGE™), an employer-driven work-readiness training program.

Encouragement for Those Close to Success

Arkansas Adult Education particularly encourages individuals who are just one test away from earning their Arkansas High School Diploma to attend the Open House.

Since 2021, nearly 900 Arkansans have successfully completed three of the four tests required to pass the GED exam. Dr. Miles reminds everyone, “It’s never too late to return to an Adult Education Center. We’re here to support you every step of the way.”

Finding Local Centers

Interested individuals can find an Adult Education Center near them by calling 1-877-963-4GED (4433) or visiting the official website.

This statewide event is designed to foster a welcoming atmosphere, making it easier for Arkansans to take that crucial first step towards furthering their education and personal growth.
