The Vibrant Heart of Little Rock in 1913
Little Rock in 1913 was a vibrant city bustling with life and activity. In this particular postcard, a writer named Ethel shared her joy with Mr. W.H. Adams in Fordyce, saying, “Am having a grand time. Wish you were here.”
At this time, the Arkansas Military Academy, which opened in 1902, was thriving, and its football team, the Iroquois, was making waves in the city. Major landmarks, such as the Capital Theater, where renowned pianist Myrtle Elvyn performed in 1908, added to the city’s cultural appeal.
Main Street was a major hub of commerce, with the Elks Club parading through its intersection with 5th Street (later Capitol Avenue) in 1910. Union Dentists also advertised their services prominently. This intersection was often referred to as the “crossroads of Arkansas.”
