Art Exhibit Showcases Transformation of Materials into Meaningful Objects
“Studio Time + Studio Practice,” the latest art exhibit, offers a captivating exploration of how artists transform raw materials into works of art. The exhibition highlights the art-making process and how artists use their hands to craft materials and convey a message informed by personal experiences.
The exhibit showcases artworks created from a variety of materials such as clay, metal, glass, and paper. It includes pieces like Elizabeth Brim’s “Pillow #2,” a metal pillow with a tassel crafted from an industrial diamond steel plate.
The exhibition also features works by Jennifer Anderson, who repurposes classic designs to create new interpretations. In addition to these, objects from the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation Collection and the UA Little Rock Permanent Collection are on display. Brad Cushman, a seasoned curator with a background in higher education, served as guest curator for the exhibit.
For those inspired by the art-making process, the Windgate Art School is hosting a free Creative Saturday activity on August 31, 2024, where participants can create metal foil sculptures based on the exhibit. There is also a Handbuilt Mug & Glaze Workshop scheduled for October 22 and 29, 2024, where attendees can learn pottery techniques and create their own clay mug.
