Construction at Busy Little Rock Intersection Advances
The ongoing construction at the intersection of Kanis and Bowman Roads in Little Rock has caused significant disruptions for drivers. Construction on this crucial area has been perceived unfavorably by drivers who are seeking clarity on when they can expect the project to be completed.
Project Aims to Improve Safety and Traffic Flow
The improvements proposed for the busy intersection include widening Bowman Road from Kanis Road to Cherry Laurel Drive to create a five-lane cross-section with two travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. The intersection of Kanis Road will be reworked to accommodate a seven-lane cross-section with dual center left turn lanes and a right turn lane. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion, enhance travel times, and provide a safer pedestrian sidewalk system.
Funding and Timeline
Funding for the project design and right-of-way acquisition comes from the City of Little Rock’s 2019-2021 Bond program. The construction costs, on the other hand, will be covered by Federal-Aid funds administered through Metroplan. Although the project began last year with the intention of finishing before 2025, officials have not provided a specific date for its completion.
Public Feedback Sought
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the traditional public meeting was not held. Instead, the city has made project plans and additional information available on its website. Public feedback is being sought, and comments are requested to be submitted in writing to form part of the project’s permanent record.
