Creative Collaborations: Ninth Acansa Festival Brings Arts, Music, Theater, Culture
Marking a decade since its inception, the Acansa Arts Festival of the South is celebrating its ninth edition with an unparalleled lineup of artistic, musical, theatrical, and cultural events.
The festival will span over two weeks from September 5 to 21 and promises to delight audiences of all ages with a diverse range of performances, exhibitions, and interactive activities across various venues in the Little Rock area.
The Artistic Palette
The ninth edition kicks off with a rooftop concert by The Big Dam Horns at The Rail Yard on September 5, followed by the Australian folk-rock band, The Heart Collectors, at The Studio Theatre on September 6.
Family Arts Day on September 7 will bring together creativity and fun at Argenta Plaza, featuring the high-energy percussion show, Buckets N Boards, alongside hands-on art activities for all ages.
Cultural Celebrations
Leading up to the finale on September 21, the festival will host various cultural events including the Hispanic Heritage Fest and a performance by Gangstagrass, an Emmy-nominated band blending bluegrass and hip-hop.
The closing performance will feature Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s global contemporary dance troupe, DBDT: Encore!, at Pulaski Technical College’s The Center for Humanities & Arts (CHARTS).
Artistic Contributions
- Sergio Valdivia will present a solo exhibition at the Acansa Gallery, which will be part of the free 3rd Friday Art Walk across the Argenta Arts District.
- Ryan & Ryan, a dynamic father-son duo, will perform a classical and jazz piano concert at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater.
- Cellist Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf will weave captivating stories alongside her exquisite arrangements in her show, Cello Stories.
With its rich and eclectic mix of performances, the Acansa Arts Festival of the South promises to be a memorable celebration of artistic expression.
