Juneteenth in Da Rock 5K showcases historical sites in central Arkansas

The Rhythm of Freedom

On the eve of Juneteenth, Little Rock gears up for a celebration of freedom and history with a unique event that takes runners on a journey through the city’s African-American heritage sites. The 3rd Annual Juneteenth 5K run/walk, part of the Juneteenth in Da Rock festivities, offers participants a chance to explore the rich history of the community while supporting the mission of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center.

On June 15, runners will lace up their shoes and embark on a scenic route that weaves through historic sites such as Arkansas Baptist College, Little Rock Central High School, and Philander Smith College. They will also pass by the home of Mifflin Gibbs, the first elected black judge in the country, along with other notable landmarks. The course is designed to give participants a deeper connection to the community and its storied past.

A Celebration of Legacy

Beyond the 5K run, the event promises a day filled with celebrations and commemorations. Following the race, participants can join the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center for their annual Juneteenth celebration on historic West 9th Street. There, they can immerse themselves in music, food, and festivities that celebrate the spirit of freedom and community.

Swag and Spirit

To commemorate this special event, all participants will receive exclusive 5K swag and the Juneteenth in Da Rock 2024 medal. These mementos serve as a reminder of the power of community and the enduring spirit of those who fought for freedom.
