Keep Arkansas Beautiful Urges Arkansans to Unite for the 2024 Great Arkansas Cleanup
Keep Arkansas Beautiful is inviting all Arkansans to participate in the 2024 Great Arkansas Cleanup, a state-wide initiative aimed at cleaning and beautifying public spaces across the state. This annual event encourages volunteers to come together to remove trash and litter from roadways, waterways, parks, and other public areas, promoting environmental stewardship and community pride.
In 2023, a remarkable 22,520 volunteers dedicated 147,230 hours to collect 636 tons of litter during the event. This enormous effort spanned 2,132 miles of roadways, 327 miles of waterways, and 772,051 acres of parks and public spaces. The impact of these cleanups was significant, returning an estimated .4 million in economic value to local communities.
Community Events and Registration
- Several community events have been scheduled across the state, including the “Keep Lake Poinsett on Point” cleanup at Lake Poinsett State Park on September 7 and the “Newport City Wide Cleanup” on September 22.
- Volunteers can register for these events or create their own cleanups through KeepArkansasBeautiful.com. The organization provides supplies, promotional materials, and T-shirts to aid cleanup efforts on a first-come, first-served basis.
By participating in the Great Arkansas Cleanup, volunteers not only contribute to beautifying their communities but also help enhance outdoor recreation areas, protect wildlife, and boost the quality of life across the state.
