Little Rock directors to vote on affordable housing

Little Rock Directors Shift Focus to Affordable Housing

As Little Rock continues to grow at a rapid pace, the need for more housing options, particularly affordable ones, has become a pressing concern for city officials.

City directors are poised to take a significant step in addressing this issue by voting on a key proposal that striving to spur development in the affordable housing sector.

This move comes on the heels of recent changes in the leadership of the Housing Authority of the City of Little Rock, which has faced scrutiny over its financial and management practices in the past few years.

  • Removal of Board Members: In September 2023, the Little Rock board of directors removed two members, Lee Lindsey and Leta Anthony, from the governing board of the Housing Authority amid allegations of inefficiency and misconduct.
  • New Appointments: In February 2024, the remaining board members filled the two vacant seats, pending approval from the city.

This renewed commitment to affordable housing is seen as a crucial step forward for the city, as it grapples with the challenges of providing adequate housing options for its low-income residents.
