Little Rock Officials Request Public Input on New Mural Design

Little Rock Seeks Public Input for New Mural Design in SOMA District

Little Rock officials, in collaboration with the Downtown Little Rock Partnership (DLRP), and supported by the City of Little Rock and SOMA 501, Inc., have issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a street mural that will grace the intersection at South Main Street and 13th Street in the thriving South Main (SOMA) neighborhood. This project is funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies Asphalt Art Initiative grant program, and Little Rock is among the 25 cities chosen from over 200 applicants in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

To expand Little Rock’s rich collection of public art, which includes murals like the Butterfly Mural in the River Market and “City Dreamers” on West 6th Street and Spring Street, the city is seeking feedback from the public for this new mural design. The RFQ documents can be found on the Downtown Little Rock Partnership’s official pages, aiming to attract a professional artist or artist team for the asphalt artwork.

Citizens with a passion for local art can actively participate in the discussion, and community members are encouraged to share their ideas to help shape this forthcoming public art installation. The project aims to serve as an iconic landmark in the SOMA district, complementing an area already distinguished by its vibrant public art and unique character.

Little Rock’s art scene has seen significant growth in recent years, with projects like the Drain Smart Public Murals and the ARkanvas initiative, which has installed 12 pieces of public art across the state. This new SOMA mural design, envisioned as an asphalt artwork, will continue to add to this thriving arts culture.

As the city gears up to welcome this new intersection mural, residents are invited to participate and become a part of this public art journey, enriching the community and leaving a lasting mark on Little Rock’s visual storytelling.
