Little Rock will again be considering a one-cent sales tax increase, with a vote set for November. This proposal aims to generate 0 million over the next decade, making significant investments in various sectors that improve the quality of life and infrastructure in the city

The proposal, championed by Mayor Frank Scott Jr., aims to boost public safety by dedicating 0 million to this area. This includes funding for public safety vehicles, the real-time crime center, community-oriented policing, and mental health response teams. Additionally, significant funds will be invested in parks and recreation to enhance and expand the parks system and recreational opportunities. The investment also focuses on infrastructure, including port and economic development

This sales tax would work by increasing the current sales tax rate from 8.625% to 9.625%. After the initial ten-year period, three-eighths of the additional penny will become permanent, supporting ongoing infrastructure and maintenance needs. The proposal is part of a comprehensive approach to transform and grow the city

This vote follows a 2021 rejection of a one-percent-point sales tax increase known as “Rebuild the Rock”, which was also championed by Mayor Scott and rejected by over 60% of voters

The Little Rock Board of Directors will first decide whether to put the measure on the November ballot, with a potential election date set for November 5
