North Little Rock church hit by March 2023 tornado celebrates new building

A New Chapter for Park View Baptist Church, a Year After Devastating Tornado

Last year, on March 31, 2023, a powerful tornado struck North Little Rock, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Among the many buildings severely damaged or destroyed was the 10,000-square-foot home of Park View Baptist Church on Donovan Briley Boulevard. Despite the devastation, the congregation persevered, and their resilience has led them to a remarkable turn of events.

After sixteen months of recovery, the church has been gifted a new 30,000-square-foot building on MacArthur Drive, just two miles southwest of their original location. This generous act from Amboy Baptist Church, which was dissolving, has provided Park View Baptist Church with not only a new place of worship but an opportunity to expand their community and services. The new building more than triples their original space, allowing them to grow and serve the community in new and exciting ways.

The journey to this point was not without its challenges. The original building contained asbestos, which had to be carefully removed before repairs could proceed. Furthermore, the repairs themselves took time, and the church had to adapt to a new normal of boarded-up windows in the Sunday School classrooms. However, despite these obstacles, the congregation remained steadfast in their commitment to rebuilding and revitalizing their church.

As Park View Baptist Church looks to the future, they can take pride in their ability to overcome adversity. The new building is a testament to their resilience and the kindness of others. As they settle into their new home, they can now focus on nurturing their community and spreading hope to those around them.

The aftermath of the tornado serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the strength that can be found in the face of adversity. Park View Baptist Church’s journey is an inspiration to all who have been affected by the devastating tornado and a beacon of hope for the future.
