Philander Smith University has announced a significant change in its leadership, electing Dr. Tionna L. Jenkins as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees.
This decision marks a milestone in the university’s history, reflecting its commitment to growth and excellence under the guidance of distinguished individuals like Dr. Jenkins. As a proud alumna and accomplished professional, Dr. Jenkins is poised to bring her extensive experience to the role.
Dr. Jenkins boasts an impressive résumé, with over 20 years of experience in public health policy, complemented by her entrepreneurial ventures. She is co-owner of Plate It Healthy, a public health and wellness company, and O’nita Lee Foods and Products, an e-commerce business offering gourmet food items. Her academic achievements include a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Arkansas, and certifications in plant-based nutrition and diabetes management.
As an active alumna, Dr. Jenkins has remained deeply connected to Philander Smith University, having served on the Board of Trustees since 2018. Her leadership roles within the university’s student organizations and her past titles, including Miss Black and Gold, Miss Philander Smith College, and Miss United Negro College Fund (UNCF), demonstrate her dedication to the institution and its community.
With the new slate of officers, Dr. Jenkins is joined by Dr. Patti Freemyer Martin as Vice Chairman and Rev. Mark Norman as Secretary. This team is poised to shape the university’s direction and policy, ensuring a bright future for its students and community.
