Sendoff for Johnny Cash Statue at Arkansas State Capitol

Home State Sendoff for Johnny Cash Statue

A special sendoff event is being held at the Arkansas State Capitol to celebrate the unveiling of a new statue of legendary musician Johnny Cash. Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston is hosting the event, which is scheduled for Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Honoring a Music Icon

Johnny Cash, a native of Arkansas, is being honored with this statue in recognition of his immense contribution to music. His remarkable career spanned multiple genres including country, blues, rock, and gospel, as well as his numerous accolades, including 13 Grammy Awards and 9 Country Music Association Awards.

Unveiling in Washington

The 8-foot-tall statue, crafted by Little Rock sculptor Kevin Kresse, depicts Cash with a guitar slung over his shoulder and a Bible in his hand. The statue will be unveiled in the U.S. Capitol’s Emancipation Hall on September 24, marking a significant moment in Arkansas’ history as Cash becomes the second individual from the state to be honored with a statue in the Capitol, following Daisy Bates.

Arkansas Celebrates

While the sendoff event at the Arkansas State Capitol is a tangible manifestation of the state’s pride in Cash’s legacy, additional events are being planned in Washington to further celebrate this September 24 unveiling. The presence of state officials and members of Cash’s family will add to the significance of the moment.
