UA Little Rock Delivers the Largest Enrollment Boost in 15 Years
UA Little Rock recently announced a remarkable surge in enrollment for the fall 2024 term, marking the largest growth in over 15 years. This increase underscores the institution’s commitment to accessibility, affordability, and academic excellence, attracting more students and families seeking high-quality education.
According to preliminary figures, the university saw a substantial 26.6% increase in first-time freshmen, with enrollment rising from 353 to 447 students. Meanwhile, transfer student enrollment enjoyed an 18.3% boost, growing from 656 to 776 students. Overall undergraduate enrollment experienced a 3.5% increase, jumping from 5,255 to 5,439 students. The graduate student headcount, however, saw a slight decline due to a decrease in international student numbers.
The driving force behind this surge is the university’s strategic focus on affordability. In recent years, UA Little Rock has introduced several initiatives aimed at reducing financial burdens on students. The Trojan Guarantee, a scholarship program launched last year, covers full tuition for Pell-eligible students. This builds upon the Half-Off Scholarship, established in 2020, which substantially reduces tuition for freshmen and sophomores, regardless of income. These efforts have resonated with prospective students, resulting in the significant uptick in enrollment.
In addition to the affordability drive, the university has made significant investments in enhancing academic facilities, bolstering industry partnerships, and expanding internship opportunities. These efforts have not only improved the academic environment but also provided students with tangible career prospects, further solidifying the university’s appeal to an expanded pool of students.
The success of these initiatives is a testament to the collective efforts of the faculty, staff, and administration at UA Little Rock. Chancellor Christina S. Drale praised the achievement, stating that the enrollment growth is a direct result of the dedication to creating an environment that both attracts and supports student success. The future looks bright for the institution, with its renewed focus on accessibility and quality education continuing to attract students from across the state and beyond.
