Beaver Lake Sees Busy Labor Day Holiday
Following the disruptions caused by the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes, Beaver Lake experienced one of its busiest Labor Day weekends in recent years. The Army Corps of Engineers anticipated a larger-than-usual crowd, which turned out to be true as people flocked to the lake for the extended weekend.
Reopening of Facilities Ahead of Holiday Weekend
In preparation for the increased visitors, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reopened the Horseshoe Bend Day Use area ahead of the holiday weekend. This effort ensured that more facilities were available to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Storm Debris Cautions and Facility Closures
Despite the efforts to reopen facilities, the recent storms had left behind debris hazards and led to the closure of some areas. The Army Corps of Engineers cautioned lake users about potential hazards and closed certain campsites, including Rocky Branch, Horseshoe Bend, and Prairie Creek, due to safety concerns.
Upcoming Events at Beaver Lake Nature Center
As the holiday season approaches, the Beaver Lake Nature Center has planned a variety of events. These include a canoe paddle around Beaver Lake to enjoy the sunset, a “Create a Holiday Kissing Ball” workshop, and a “Breakfast with Santa” event. Additionally, the center will host the Houston Wynn Duo for an evening of acoustic music and desserts.
Working Women’s Walking Group
The nature center is also organizing a “Working Women’s Walking Group” to provide an opportunity for working women to socialize and exercise. The group will meet regularly from October to December, offering a chance to connect with friends and enjoy nature.
