Bentonville Hosts 13th Annual Triathlon Funding Multiple Sclerosis Research
On September 1, 2024, Bentonville, Arkansas, witnessed the vibrant spirit of athletes and advocates coming together to make a significant impact on multiple sclerosis (MS) research. For the 13th year in a row, the city hosted the Trifest for MS triathlon, an event where triathletes, their supporters, and local organizations converged to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
This triathlon stands among the top five in the United States, attracting a diverse group of participants, including youth, adults, and para-athletes. The event features various distances and formats, ranging from the Kids’ Triathlon to the Olympic F1 Triathlon, ensuring that all ages and skill levels can participate and contribute to the fundraising efforts.
As a testament to the power of community, the Trifest for MS has become a beacon of hope for those affected by MS. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Rampy MS Research Foundation, significant strides have been made in advancing research, particularly at institutions like Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Scientists like Dr. Brian Popko have benefited from the generous funding, which has facilitated their groundbreaking work on the myelin sheath in search of new therapies for MS patients.
As part of the extensive event program, attendees can explore a range of activities beyond the triathlon itself. From the Trifesta and Tri-Club Championship awards to the youth transition and packet pickup sessions, there is a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that pervades the weekend. Furthermore, the involvement of local businesses and corporations adds a corporate dimension, ensuring that the full might of Bentonville’s community is behind this noble cause.
In a broader context, the Trifest for MS aligns with the Research MS vision of building a first-of-its-kind research network focused on finding a cure for MS. By supporting research at leading institutions, this event plays a vital role in moving towards a future where MS no longer hampers the lives of nearly a million people in the United States who are currently living with the disease.
As the participants and supporters of the 13th Trifest for MS celebrate their collective achievements, their collective determination to find a cure for MS further underscores the transformative potential of community-driven initiatives.
