Construction Progresses on Bentonville’s Quilt of Parks

Bentonville, Arkansas, is witnessing significant progress on its innovative “Quilt of Parks” project, aiming to seamlessly connect several downtown public spaces into a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly experience.

Seamless Connectivity

The project began with the construction of Town Branch Park, which marked the first phase of the larger scheme. Soon to follow is the development of A Street Promenade, a pedestrian-only linear park stretching over four blocks. This transformative addition to downtown Bentonville promises to enhance the city’s pedestrian experience, economy, and overall safety. Peppered throughout the promenade are sculptures, gathering spaces, plazas, mini-stages, outdoor seating, integrated landscaping, and more.

Extensive Park Renovations

Aside from the promenade, the project also includes a full redesign of Dave Peel Park and the completion of The Commons, a public plaza area that extends from Bentonville Square. The Plaza will host passive recreation spaces, public events, outdoor dining, and community gatherings, further enriching the downtown environment.

Funding and Partnerships

The Walton family has generously financed the project, supplemented by a substantial donation from the Bentonville Advertising and Promotions Commission. The collaboration between Bentonville Parks and Recreation and Downtown Bentonville, Inc. will ensure that A Street Promenade is activated with weekly entertainment and quality-of-life programming.

Completion Timeline

The estimated construction timeline for the Quilt of Parks project is 18 to 24 months, with both Town Branch Park and A Street Promenade underway simultaneously. The ambitious plan seeks to complete the project by 2025, enhancing the foundation for continued prosperity in Downtown Bentonville.

Enhanced Park Spaces

Furthermore, the city is investing in other park spaces such as the 8th Street Gateway Park, which will be a 100-acre campus featuring amenities like trails, playgrounds, and gardens. Additionally, Phillips Park is being renovated to include a 50-acre sports complex, significantly expanding recreational opportunities in the southeast part of the community.
