Cycling and Trails Education Center Opens at Northwest Arkansas Community College
Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Cycling and Trails Education Center in Bentonville. This state-of-the-art facility is housed in a renovated building and is focused on trails and cycling, reflecting the area’s reputation as the mountain bike capital of the world.
The center is not only home to the existing bicycle technician program but also introduces the new trail technician program, well-timed to support the burgeoning cycling and trail-building industries. Both programs are designed to provide students with industry-recognized training and hands-on experience, preparing them for fulfilling careers in these fields.
The trail technician program encompasses skills such as driving heavy equipment, small engine repair, chainsaw use, and welding. Students will learn these skills through a combination of in-person and online learning options, providing flexibility and versatility. The program aims to create sustainable learning environments and equip students with the necessary expertise to enter the workforce directly.
The bicycle technician program, which began in 2021, continues to thrive, offering training in bicycle assembly, repair, and related skills. The college also offers community classes and workshops to cater to a broader range of interests and levels of proficiency.
This substantial investment by NWACC and the support from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation reflect a deep commitment to workforce development and education in these specific areas. As demand for skilled professionals in trail-building and cycling services continues to rise, NWACC is well-positioned to supply the industry with highly qualified graduates. The future for both students and the local economy looks bright.
Northwest Arkansas Community College is the largest two-year college in the state, and this expansion underscores its dedication to being a hub for innovation and skill development.
The energy in the new center is palpable, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of the students and instructors alike. As the cycling and trail-building sectors continue to grow, NWACC’s Trails and Trades Division will be at the forefront, shaping the next generation of professionals in these fields.
