Gulley Park Playground Reopens with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On Thursday, June 6, the newly improved Gulley Park playground celebrated its grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event marked the culmination of extensive work on the playground area, which includes a custom designed stagecoach honoring the historical Butterfield Coach line, a cow and calf honoring the park’s former use as a farm, and additional features. The playground area has been expanded and renovated to provide more recreational opportunities for users of all ages.
The ceremony brought together city officials and community members to showcase the park’s updated facilities. Among the new features are an interactive fountain, seating areas, and a pavilion.
- The Gulley Park Master Plan, last updated in 2018, outlines further improvements to the park, including the addition of a dog park, tennis and pickleball courts, and enhancements to the prairie area and lake.
- Future work on the park will be funded by proceeds from the third draw of the 2019 Park bonds, with planning set to begin next year.
The recent improvements are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to expand recreational opportunities and create more public open spaces in the area. The park has undergone significant changes since the acquisition of a ten-acre parcel in 2014, including the construction of the Niokaska Trail and the expansion of the Township Parking lot.
