Storm Debris Removal Efforts in Benton County and Cities Surpass 1.7 Million Cubic Yards
Following the devastating storm that hit Northwest Arkansas over the Memorial Day weekend, Benton County and its cities have made significant progress in clearing the massive amounts of debris left in its wake. As of now, the total debris collected has exceeded 1.7 million cubic yards, an enormous task accomplished through the tireless efforts of local authorities and contracted companies.
Looks Great Services, the contracted company, has gathered over 500,000 cubic yards of debris as reported by mid-June, with functional drop-off sites and a mapped schedule guiding the cleanup process. Additionally, cities within Benton County have collectively picked up hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of debris.
Separating debris into vegetative and construction categories has facilitated the efficient removal process. Residents have been advised to follow guidelines to ensure the safe and effective collection of debris. Utility crews have also been working diligently to clear debris that may have obstructed power lines and other essential services.
- Vegetative debris includes rootballs, tree stumps, branches, and other leafy materials.
- Construction and demolition debris includes damaged components of buildings and structures like lumber, wallboard, glass, and roofing materials.
Despite the significant progress made, there is still more to be done. Benton County has planned a second storm debris pickup pass, scheduled to begin on August 18. This further underscores the relentless commitment of local authorities to restore the community to its pre-storm state
