NWACC Celebrates the Launch of State-of-the-Art Trails and Cycling Center
Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is proud to announce the opening of a cutting-edge center dedicated to trails and cycling. This innovative hub is designed to empower students and enthusiasts with the essential skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving outdoor recreation and cycling industries.
At the heart of this center lies a trail technician program, crafted to equip students with comprehensive training in trail construction, maintenance, and sustainable practices. The program’s emphasis on practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and real-world exposure ensures graduates are well-prepared for various careers in trail management and development.
In addition to the trail technician program, NWACC offers hands-on training in bicycle assembly and repair through its Bicycle Technician Program. This program, accredited by the Bicycle Industry Employers Association (BIEA), provides students with industry-recognized skills in bicycle mechanics, wheel repair, and more. Students can earn a technical certificate in bicycle assembly and repair or pursue an Associate of Applied Science in General Technology, which can transfer to a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership or Operations and Logistics.
Further enhancing the college’s commitment to supporting the regional economy, NWACC has established trails trade school educational pathways that include certificate options in trail construction and management, as well as associates degrees in General Technology and Construction Technology. These pathways offer a range of professional opportunities, from trail crew members to project managers and designers.
One key aspect of the trails center is its collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Professional Trail Builders Association, American Trails, and regional government agencies. This cooperation will drive innovation in trail design, maintenance, and workforce and employer certification, solidifying Northwest Arkansas as a major hub for outdoor recreation.
Community involvement is also encouraged through NWACC’s offering of bike tech community classes on Saturdays, which cover essential bicycle maintenance skills. With its expert instructors and state-of-the-art facilities, NWACC stands poised to make a significant impact on the future of the outdoor recreation and cycling industries.
