Pea Ridge Community Embracing Growth and Development
Pea Ridge, Arkansas, is witnessing an unprecedented surge in commercial and residential developments, attracting investments from various parts of Northwest Arkansas. Tammy Johnson, a 37-year resident, notes the significant transformation from when there were only a few businesses like Pizza Hut and a gas station to the current presence of great dentists, physicians, and a brand new urgent care facility.
The city’s population grew from 5,960 to 6,491 between 2020 and 2021, reflecting an annual growth rate of 7-9% per year, according to Pea Ridge Mayor Nathan See. This rapid growth has led to an influx of new businesses, including a three-suite strip center and quick-service restaurants along Highway 72. The community is also getting an optometrist office, relieving residents from having to travel far for services.
While the growth brings excitement and convenience, some residents like Mandy Sanders, who co-owns a tanning salon, express concerns about the potential loss of the small community feel. They are also worried about the increased traffic and its impact on daily life.
Efforts are being made to address the traffic issues. Mayor See has met with the Arkansas Department of Transportation and the State Highway Commission to discuss improvements to Highway 72. Furthermore, the city is working on creating spaces for community and future generations, including a community center with a park and open spaces on 55 acres east of town.
In addition to commercial and residential developments, Pea Ridge has a strong church community that actively contributes to the local welfare. Churches like The Ridge Church are involved in charitable activities, such as organizing toy giveaways for families in need and managing food pantries like Loaves and Fishes.
- The Ridge Church provides gifts, clothing, and food through the Loaves and Fishes pantry, serving families not only in Northwest Arkansas but also from neighboring counties in Missouri and Oklahoma.
The church’s efforts aim to spread love and support to those struggling, fostering a sense of community that complements the area’s economic growth.
