Recollections: News from Years Gone By – Northwest Arkansas
September 1964 saw the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rogers Public Library. The event marked the beginning of a major renovation for the growing community. The library, scheduled for completion in 1965, promised to provide a significant upgrade in facilities and resources for the residents of Rogers.
Flashforward to November 1973, when the Bentonville Jaycees held their annual Turkey Trot. The event, now a beloved tradition, brought together locals and visitors alike for a day of fun, food, and sportsmanship. Proceeds from the event went towards supporting local charitable initiatives.
In December 1982, the historic Huntsville Square in Madison County received a major facelift. Local businesses and residents came together to restore the square’s original charm. This extensive renovation included the installation of new streetlights, sidewalks, and landscaping.
June 1991 witnessed the grand opening of the Rogers Historical Museum. The museum, dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Rogers, showcased exhibits on early settlers, the railroad, and the development of the area. The museum quickly became a popular tourist destination and a valuable resource for local schools.
In August 1999, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport received significant upgrades, including an extended runway and modernized air traffic control systems. This improvement allowed for increased air traffic capacity, making it easier for residents and visitors to travel in and out of the region.
October 2004 saw the completion of the Razorback Regional Greenway, a 36-mile trail system stretching from Fayetteville to Rogers. The greenway provided a safe, scenic route for pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers, promoting a healthier lifestyle and community engagement.
