Archeologist to Address Ouachita Chapter

The Ouachita Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society is excited to host Dr. Mary Beth Trubitt, the Research Station Archeologist at the Henderson State University Research Station, for a special address.

Dr. Trubitt’s extensive experience in the field will provide valuable insights into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Her work focuses on ancient technologies, including marine shell, stone tool making, and ceramics, as well as exchange systems, households, and community patterning.

The meeting, scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in Hot Springs, marks another milestone in the chapter’s ongoing commitment to understanding and preserving the archeological resources of southwestern Arkansas. Members of the community are invited to attend and engage with the region’s archeological history.

Dr. Trubitt’s presentation will be an enriching experience for both seasoned archeologists and those just beginning to explore their interest in the field. Her contributions to the study of archeology have been instrumental in shaping our understanding of complex Native American societies in eastern North America.

The Henderson State University Research Station, under Dr. Trubitt’s direction, continues to be a hub for archeological research and community engagement. The station’s work on the Joint Educational Consortium’s Hodges Collection, a major collection of American Indian artifacts, has provided internship opportunities for students and fostered deep connections with local volunteers and cemetery associations.
