Rogers Middle School Prepares for School Year with Mobile Classrooms After Tornado Damage
As the new school year approaches, Rogers Middle School is preparing to face the challenges left by a devastating tornado that ravaged the area. Greer Lingle Middle School, which serves students in grades 6 through 8, will be closed for the entire 2024-25 school year due to extensive damage sustained on May 26.
Superintendent Jeff Perry described the situation, saying, “If it was a car, it would be totaled.” The school’s roof, electricity, and air conditioning systems were severely damaged, making it impassable for the upcoming year.
To mitigate the disruption, the school district has planned a temporary solution. Mobile classrooms will be set up adjacent to Rogers New Technology High School, accommodating approximately 700 students from Greer Lingle. The mobile units, to be placed in 12 units, will be equipped with bathrooms, water, and internet access.
Despite the turbulence, the school has scheduled open houses for early August to familiarize students and parents with the new setup.
- August 8: 6th graders, 5-6:30 P.M.
- August 12: 7th and 8th graders, 5-6:30 P.M.
Families are being reassured that safety will be a top priority. The district plans to install fencing, limit transitions between classrooms, and ensure all transitions are supervised. Parents, while worried, expressed optimism and determination to make the best of the situation, echoing the sentiment that the students will adapt and thrive.
