BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A Troy man has been charged in connection with a deadly May crash that killed a Farmington Hills driver at a busy Bloomfield Township intersection. Oakland County prosecutors say the case centers on a late-night collision that involved three vehicles, a red-light violation and allegations of reckless speed.
Robert Isho, 34, was charged with reckless driving causing death, a felony that carries a possible prison sentence of up to 15 years. He was arraigned Sept. 30 before 48th District Court Magistrate Richardson, and his bond was set at $25,000 with a 10% provision.
How police say the crash unfolded at 11:42 p.m. on May 30
Investigators say the crash happened around 11:42 p.m. May 30 at the intersection of southbound Woodward Avenue and Quarton Road. According to police, Isho was driving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Quarton Road at a high rate of speed when he entered the intersection against a red light.
The Jeep then struck two vehicles traveling southbound on Woodward Avenue. Police identified those vehicles as a 2026 Dodge Charger driven by a 28-year-old Troy man and a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 30-year-old Farmington Hills man. The force of the collision set off a serious chain reaction that investigators say sent one vehicle far from the roadway.
Farmington Hills driver killed as Jeep catches fire after impact
Police said the impact pushed the Camry several hundred feet west of Woodward Avenue. The driver of that car suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials did not immediately release his name, but they said he was a 30-year-old Farmington Hills man.
The Jeep caught fire after the crash, and police took its driver to a local hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Charger was not injured. The physical aftermath, including the fire and the distance the Camry was thrown, underscores the severity of the collision and the speed investigators believe was involved.
Felony charge carries prison exposure as case moves forward
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said it issued a warrant for Isho on Sept. 23. The charge of reckless driving causing death is a felony under Michigan law and carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison if there is a conviction.
Isho’s arraignment took place a week later, and the bond conditions allow him to remain out of custody while the case proceeds. Court records and prosecutorial filings will now shape the next stage of the case as the allegations are tested in court. No trial date was included in the information released Tuesday.
Police say speed and reckless driving likely contributed to the wreck
Investigators said speed and reckless driving likely played a role in the crash. That assessment remains part of the ongoing investigation, which has not been closed. Authorities have not said whether additional charges are being considered.
The case has also prompted another reminder from police about the dangers of aggressive driving. Officials urged motorists to slow down, avoid distractions and obey traffic signals and other traffic laws. The message was paired with notice from the Bloomfield Township Police Department that it plans increased traffic enforcement during the summer months.
Bloomfield Township plans more summer traffic enforcement after crash
The Bloomfield Township Police Department said its stepped-up enforcement is part of an effort to prevent crashes and reduce injuries. While the department did not tie the increased patrols to one specific roadway, the announcement followed a crash that drew attention to the risks of speeding through intersections.
Woodward Avenue and Quarton Road is a heavily traveled crossing, and police say the May collision shows how quickly a traffic violation can become fatal. For investigators, the case remains focused on what happened in the seconds before impact, and for officials, it has become another example of why drivers are being asked to slow down and pay closer attention behind the wheel.
